ABOUT REVEREND KAREN SHOCKLEY
A passion for holiness and righteousness;
a passion for praise and worship; and a passion for
obedience of and submission to the Lord… those
phrases could each describe Rev. Karen Shockley
and her walk with God.
Rev. Karen Shockley is a Woman of God whose testimony is book-worthy, as it encompasses a distinctive spiritual journey that spans more than 40 years and includes life events from cancer to miracles. She takes her ministry very seriously and holds in high regard every ministry assignment God orchestrates her to obtain. As a result, she studies long to present the anointed Word God has given her for His people.
Rev. Shockley was born the third from the oldest of 8 children born to loving parents, the late Ethel & Joseph Steven Shockley, Sr. She is the second preacher in her immediate family. She accepted Jesus Christ at age 15 and was baptized at First Pilgrim Baptist Church in Camden, Delaware. Over the course of more than 40 years, she steadily increased her devotion to the Lord, faithfully serving in many churches in California, Virginia and Texas. While serving in Texas, she sang in accomplished choirs, served on every church board and committee imaginable, and scrubbed church toilets, all to the glory of God.
After 16 years in Texas, under orders of the Lord, Rev. Shockley moved back to Delaware in 2007 to care for her disabled mother. Then, two years later, she also became caregiver of her sister who had suffered a stroke. For 13 years, Karen continued to serve her mother until her mom transitioned to heaven in March 2020.
Rev. Shockley is proud to say she is a two-time breast cancer survivor because she wants everyone to know God is a healer and is able to do all things. We need only believe He will do what He promises He will do, which is to never leave us nor forsake us.
In July, 2013, Rev. Shockley achieved two important milestones: First, she graduated with honors from Calvary Bible Institute, having earned an Associate degree in Biblical Studies. The second big accomplishment is that she completed a God-ordained book entitled, “Twelve Days of Christmas (A Spiritual Fast and Other Poetic Writings).” Karen is currently enrolled at Delaware State University to complete her Bachelor of Arts degree, while also working on her second book.
She was licensed and later ordained by the late Rev. Dr. Richard M. Avant, the former pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, and is currently under the pastoral leadership of Bishop W. James Thomas, II, where she serves on the ministerial team and led the Drama Ministry for 8 years. In the latter capacity, Rev. Shockley has written and directed a number of stage productions, including “The Sweet Savor of True Worship” and “Mine Eyes Have Seen the Glory of the Coming of the Lord.”
Karen has a passion for holiness and righteousness; a passion for praise and worship; and a passion for obedience of and submission to the Lord. She is a hard-working, dedicated Woman of God who is a kind-hearted, compassionate, and honorable person with a great sense of humor who would literally give her last to someone in need.
She loves the people of God; she loves the Word of God; and she remains ready to go where He says to go and to speak what He says to speak, in and out of season.
